This course by award-winning illustrator kOrky Paul helps aspiring illustrators, like you, to learn the art and craft of children's book illustration.
It will also help you develop your drawing and painting skills. And it will teach you how to prepare a children’s book for presentation to a prospective publisher.
ILLUSTRATION FOR CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOKS
This 10-week course is run as a series of 2-hour workshops on a Monday evening in The Cherwell School, Oxford. The workshops are just like an editorial meeting with all learners seated around one large ‘board-room’ style table. No artwork will be done during the workshops, so be prepared to do lots of homework.
kOrky Paul covers 10 important aspects of book illustration during this course.
You will learn:
1. How to read a manuscript, then break it
down to fit into the format of a picture book.
2. To do research, finding reference material and
build up a reference library.
3. To produce rough illustrations and layouts.
4. How to prepare finished artwork based on the roughs.
5. About page design, layout and composition.
6. About typography and incorporating this with your layout and illustration.
7. To look for your own voice and develop your own unique style of illustration.
8. To use different techniques, media and materials.
9. How to apply this knowledge with basic computer skills using programmes such as InDesign and PhotoShop.
10. To prepare a manuscript for presentation.
